April 2025 Newsleter
Happy April Yogie Fans!
We hope our fans have made it safely through some of the crazy weather we have been experiencing, and not just the dangerous storms here in the south. It seems like everyone is having some crazy weather.
BAKE SALE: We want to thank you to those who came and supported our Spring Bake Sale on March 22nd. There py April Yogie Fans!
were so many events going on in our community that it is always difficult to find the best day and time to do these and have the best outcome of visitors. So, thank you again for being there for us.
TILLY: Tilly is a new kitten our director found, and successfully, safely trapped outside her home. We suspected she was about three months old, which is pushing the window of socialization. She is currently in the sanctuary medical condo while we socialize her. She went to the vet on the 29th and she tested negative for FIV/FeLV/HW, which thrills us to death. She is a healthy kitten. She is a semi-long haired Torbie, which is a mix of tortoiseshell and tabby. We already have an adopter waiting for her. We just want to give her more socialization before we do so to have the best outcome.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS: May 26th we will be celebrating our twenty-fifth anniversary? We don’t have any special events planned for the month, but we will be sending out a list, and hopefully, biographies and photos, of our current population of cats who are available for sponsorship that we hope you will consider sponsoring.
SABER: On Saturday morning, March 15th, during the morning rounds, the Director found Saber dead in his room. Although he had liver disease, his death still caught us by surprise. We just never know how much time we have with our animals.
Saber was one of four kittens our director trapped back in June and July of 2009. She caught them, and their mother, Mama. Mama and two of her boys, Binx and Domino, remain from the group. Mama is a very tame and sweet cat.
Saber was a shy, but sweet boy. He joins his brother, Pete, at the Rainbow bridge. We miss him.

PIA: We also had to sadly say goodbye to Pia. The Director brought her in for a follow-up ultrasound. The machine was down at the vet, and they called to let her know it was back up. She was on thyroid and liver medication. The vet was concerned that her liver values increased despite being on Denamarin for her liver. She wanted to do an ultrasound to check for blockages or stones around the gallbladder. Upon ultrasound the results were even more disturbing and disappointing. Pia was loaded with cancer. It was very advanced. Pia had also lost too much weight in that brief time span. The difficult, but kind, decision was made to let Pia go gently.
Pia was a neighborhood cat that had the TNR ear tip. One day in May of 2017, two stray dogs attacked Pia and when the Director opened the front door of her house to run and help Pia, she ran into her house and the rest is history. Pia never had to deal with that kind of thing again and spent the rest of her life loved and living in the lap of luxury. We were not going to put her through any cancer treatment since we saw how advanced her cancer was.

VET CARE:
Vet care is one, if not, our biggest costs in running the sanctuary. We have a large population of permanent residents, which is also why we have decided not to take in anymore cats for the near future. We want to be able to afford what we have. It is still difficult, but we make it because of some incredibly special people.
We are seeing some specific age-related issues, which is expected, but we sure would love a break. For instance, we are taking Grayson to the vet tomorrow afternoon because he is losing weight. He is eating, drinking, and seems otherwise fine, but he does have FIV and stomatitis, which resulted in almost a complete dental extraction. We wish there were grants out there for this kind of thing. But, we have some very special, amazing, people, who have made this possible for us to keep going. We cannot express our gratitude to them for their generosity.
We have a vet balance of $2039.41 at the vet clinic now. It never seems to end.
You can call the vet clinic directly at 318-747-5747 and donate over the phone.

PayPal and Venmo are the best, and quickest, ways to help. Then we can immediately go buy the supplies.
