August 2018 Newsletter

Greetings Yogie Fans!

PAISLEY: Paisley, our sweet cat that retested FIV NEGATIVE, but was positive for corona virus and toxoplasmosis, had her follow-up visit with our vet on the 30th. She was examined and given the all clear! Yay! She will always have a stuffy sounding nose. She may have had several untreated upper respiratory infections (URI), but was never treated, and that causes permanent scarring in the nose and sometime sinuses. She has had some improvement, but she isn’t sick. The vet did find a very slight heart murmur, but nothing worrisome. So, she is good until her yearly exam.

NEW CAT BUILDING: The new building is looking amazing. The floor and base boards are in! Now it will need to be caulked and touch up paint for all the trim. We haven’t come up with the loft access yet but have several ideas. Then we will also do the walkways and all the fun stuff for the cats. We will begin to look at the outdoor catio after that. We are looking for grants and a lot of fundraising since a lot of concrete will be needed. BUT, the house will be used before that is built and the cats can enjoy their new digs!

CRITICAL NEEDS: We have had some big hits in the vet bills department this past month. We desperately need your help to build the coffers back up to be prepared for any medical emergencies. We also can use Scoopable cat litter, preferable unscented, but we will take any, as well as cat food. We feed Friskies or Fancy Feast canned pate, or Purina Cat Chow complete. We do have some on an expensive urinary tract formula that we have to get at the vet. If you can help with a monetary donation, please do. We really hope you can help us in this area.

PAYPAL: Did you know you can do automatic monthly donations to Yogie and Friends via PayPal? This is an easy and effective way to help our fundraising for the animals. You can also choose to pay the fees by selecting the Friends and Family option in PayPal ensuring we would receive the entire amount of your donation.

July 2018 Newsletter

Greetings Yogie Fans!

PAISLEY: Paisley was one of the first FIV/FeLV positive cats to arrive at Yogie and Friends. A local veterinarian asked if we would take her because he didn’t feel it necessary to euthanize a cat just because they test positive for the virus. Paisley always sounds like she has the sniffles and the vet said she didn’t have any infections but would always sound this way. Recently we noticed a little weight loss and wanted to get her checked to make sure nothing bad was happening. Our vet said there wasn’t a big weight loss, but she prescribed a medication we’ve never used and nose drops. Her blood work was sent out to the lab for a more in-depth analysis. Our vet called us and gave us some very surprising, and unexpected, news. Paisley tested NEGATIVE for both FIV and FeLV. This was amazing news. Her labs did show that she has Corona virus, which is very common, and for Toxoplasmosis, which was a bit of a surprise to us. Both are very treatable, and the vet said pose no threat to us. We also are very diligent in our cleaning. The good news is, that after a month of the medications she will be on we will be able to get with one of the other cat rescues that do adoption days at Petco. We would love to get her adopted. We do adopt our cats out to people that understand FIV/FeLV, but it is not a common practice. This made us all very happy. It’s also why we periodically retest. Yay Paisley!

CRITICAL NEEDS: We have had over $2000.00 in vet bills this past month. This means our coffers are at about $1000, and that is for cat food, cat litter, veterinarian care, and electric. We appreciate our fans,

You can use this link with our partner number: www.chewy.com/rp/6019

NEW CAT BUILDING: The two lofts and all the trim, except base board, have been completed in the new cat building. The lofts are painted and then the trim will be caulked and painted as well. The vinyl plank flooring has been purchased and we got a great price on that. We need to raise some more funds to complete that installation and the base board. The labor is only $300, which is very inexpensive. It’s the same person who did the lofts and trim. It’s looking great! We have had a lot of vet bills this month, so the floor is a lower priority now, but we expect it to be very soon.

June 2018

Greetings Yogie Fans!

It’s Official! We have legally changed our name to: Yogie and Friends FIV+ Cats Sanctuary.

We knew we would be changing our name once we no longer had any exotic cats. We added the Domestic Animal Project (D.A.P.) as a division of our organization back in 2005. We have been Yogie and Friends since 2000. We felt it was a brand many know and wanted to maintain it. So, here we are.

Sam: We took three cats in for physicals the other day and got Sam retested for FIV/FeLV. Whenever we get young cats that have tested positive we always retest them several months later. Many young cats test positive because of their mother’s antibodies and come back negative later. Well, this is the case for sweet Sam. We were thrilled that his retest came back a big, fat, NEGATIVE! Yay! We asked our friends at Port City Cat Rescue (PCCR) if they would take Sam for us and place him up for adoption. They have agreed to do so, and they will take him to their rescue in about a week. PCCR has an adoption area in Petco and they also have a large facility within the Shreveport city limits that people go to adopt. They are in a much better place to do this for us. We will miss this sweet little guy, but we hope he gets adopted to a family that will spoil him like crazy!

New Cat Building: The new cat building is so close to completion. We painted a special water sealant on the floor the past two days as an extra added protection prior to putting the vinyl plank flooring in. This was recommended by a friend who is a home builder and we felt it was an excellent idea. The only things remaining to be completed inside the building is the two lofts, window and door trims, and the floor. When the inside is complete we will bring the cats in. We will then look at completing the outdoor enclosure later, but the sooner we get the cats inside, the better.

AMAZON WISH LIST: If you shop via Amazon.com you select Yogie and Friends as your charity of choice. They will donate a percentage of the sales to us. It’s a very easy way to help.

We also have an Amazon wish list to help feed our cats and kittens. We need you!

Bissell Pet Foundation: We are part of the Bissell Pet Foundation and hopefully will be able to receive grants to help our shelter now as a result. The BISSELL Pet Foundation supports programs and initiatives that are focused on addressing the pet overpopulation crisis in our country. Through funding for pet adoption, spay/neuter, microchipping, and foster care we are making a difference to reduce the number of pets in shelters and rescues. They support the lifesaving work of 3,000 animal welfare organizations in all 50 states.

Our Needs: We always need cat litter. We use Scoopable cat litter, preferably unscented or very little scent, cat food, canned Friskies pate’ and Fancy Feast pate’.

Since we have the normal operational costs of electric, water, gas, and of course, Veterinary care, we need cash. Cash is very important to our caring for the cats and none of us get paid at Yogie and Friends. 100% of your tax-deductible donations go to the animal’s care.

Donations of cash can be done in several ways, online via PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account to use a credit card to make a one-time donation via PayPal. Or you can mail a check or money order to: Yogie and Friends, 128 Fob Lane, Frierson, LA 71027
