Robin 2002 – 2012
We are sad and heartbroken to report that Robin, our lion, passed away at 6:35 this evening.
Robin had a very poor start in life. He arrived at 14 months old with his littermate, Batman, in May 2003. He had been horribly declawed and had other medical issues.
As hard as this is for us we take some comfort in knowing we gave him as good a life he could have in captivity. We are all pretty sad right now.

October 2012 Newsletter
Happy October!
Well, our season is coming to an end. Our last day for the 2012 visitor season is October 27th. Hopefully the weather will cooperate the next few Saturdays.
Finances: The upcoming months always present a financial challenge for us. If we remained open year round, which we cannot due to weather, then it might be a bit easier but not usually. Historically things slow down in October with all the festivals and holidays so it makes no sense to remain open during those times. We do utilize the off season to do some fundraisers of our own in hopes of keeping finances up. Unfortunately things happen. We recently had to repair three chain saws and two riding lawn mowers and the food transport trailer broke down. These things happen with normal wear and tear. Then there are vet issues if an animal gets sick and right now Robin, a lion, has allergy issues that we are treating. October also brings our liability insurance due and this, along with normal overhead such as electric and water, add up. We just spent $4000 in two weeks. This is another reason we remain a 100% volunteer driven organization. Can you imagine us having to deal with a payroll? We all feel that all money should go to operating the facility to care for these animals and we will always remain volunteer driven. However, we can really use a financial lift from our fans and donors. There are far too few grants available for big cat rescues. We work hard to bring awareness and ask for donations. It gets us through, but we sure would love to have a bigger cushion. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to Yogie and Friends. We appreciate it.
Fall Bake sale: We had another great bake sale and appreciate all those who baked for us, manned the event, and came out to support these great animals. Thank you so much!
Combined Federal Campaign (CFC): The 2012/2013 CFC campaign has now begun. Military personnel and Federal Employees can do payroll deduction donations to Yogie and Friends via CFC. This program is easy and another good way to give financial assistance to the big cats. We hope you will please consider Yogie and Friends when making your CFC contribution. Our CFC number is 42427.
Facebook: Don’t forget to follow us on Face Book. We have a very active page and update it often with news and events as they happen. Tell all your friends about us too and ask them to like on us.
Recycle: We have a really good program of recycling and this is an easy way to help both the environment and the big cats when you recycle your cartridges. Check out the link on our website how to participate in our recycling program.

September 2012 Sanctuary Newsletter
Hello!
We are happy to report that hurricane Isaac did not wreak havoc on the northwest part of the state that we thought it might. We had some much needed rain and fortunately it was not the heavy flooding type. We did experience some winds and downed trees causing power outages in the area, but otherwise we are grateful that it was not much worse here. We send our thoughts and prayers to those in the southern part of the state and the rest of the hard hit areas during this time. We know this is a very difficult time for them and hope recovery comes quickly.
As of this writing we plan to open for our regular Saturday hours of noon – 5pm on Saturday September 1st. If there is a change in weather, and there is some rain forecast, that makes the property too wet for visitors and their vehicles we will post on our Facebook page, website, and on the telephone recording if we are unable to open. Keep watching for any possible updates.

2012 Season: There are only two more months in the Yogie visitor season. This has gone by quickly. We hope you get a chance to come and visit us before we close for the winter. October 27th is our last day for the 2012 season. It just slows down a great deal after October and this gives us a better chance to do off site fundraising. The months we close are also a critical time for us financially and we need your financial support more than ever during these months and throughout the year. Please consider a tax-deductible financial contribution. We really appreciate it.
Fall Bake sale: Our fall bake sale is Saturday, September 22nd at Petco on Youree Drive, Shreveport from 11a.m.- 4p.m. We always have some amazing goodies and we will have some new merchandise available as well. We hope to see you there and please tell all your friends about this. 100% of the proceeds raised go to the care and needs of our animals. Nobody at Yogie and Friends receives any compensation for the work we do. We are, and will remain, a 100% volunteer driven organization.

Recycle: There have been some very good changes to the recycling program. Now our partner company takes all cartridges and that takes the work out of sorting and organizing. This is a nice break for Paige who works very hard on this program for us. We also take your old cell phones as well, so please don’t forget to recycle those ink jet/laser jet cartridges. We have a really good program of recycling and this is an easy way to help both the environment and the big cats when you recycle your cartridges. Kroger Neighbor to Neighbor Donation Program: If you are a Kroger shopper in Texas or Louisiana, then we hope you will take the letter on our website with you the next time you shop and have the cashier scan the bar code and pair it with your Kroger Plus Card. Once you do this, then every time you shop you will be contributing to Yogie and Friends.
Current Volunteer Needs:
Carpenters: We need work done in our gift shop/admission building with some inside trim work, installing linoleum, drywall repair, entry/exit door roof needed and some minor water damage in the bathroom. Also, we need some wooden fence repair work.
Plumbing: We’ve had a continuous problem with the bathroom plumbing that we cannot seem to resolve, so we could use a plumber to help figure this one out for us.
Financial: We can always use money. This helps us with the normal maintaining of the sanctuary such as water, electric, and vet care. We appreciate any monetary donation you can provide and it is tax-deductible. And, it ALL goes to the care of the cats. We remain a 100% volunteer driven organization.
