June 2023 Newsletter
Greetings Yogie Fans!
June has arrived and it just seems like the months are flying by!
Another Give for Good campaign has come and gone, and we want to thank everyone who contributed, and/or shared, about this event. We don’t know the final tally yet but should soon. We think it is about $2500. We did win a $500 prize and we have never won a prize. That makes us happy. So, thank you again.
Yogie and Friends celebrated its 23rd Anniversary on May 26th. Thank you for making this possible.
LEE: Our friends at Bossier City Animal Control were trying to find a rescue to help save a very sick adult cat. Lee was found roaming Benton Road in Bossier. He was emaciated and sickly. He had been neutered, declawed, and had a microchip. When BCAC contacted the address on the microchip, the people denied knowing the cat. We have our suspicions, but it does no good to go there. We could not take Lee because his condition warranted a home without any other animals that could possibly hurt him. Serendipity Pet Rescue decided to take him and our Director, Jenny, took him to her house to foster him. Lee had severe matting of his fur, so he was shaved to remove them. Mats are very painful and can cause sores. After Jenny picked him up from the vet, she saw just how terribly ill he really was. She kept him in her bathroom on a very soft blanket, he ate well, and we felt rested comfortably, what may have been the first time in a long time. Lee declined overnight and stopped eating and drinking. Sadly, he crossed the Rainbow Bridge on May 24th. This guy touched us all deeply. R.I.P. Lee.
FOOD AND LITTER:
We are having a difficult time finding canned cat food. We have no idea why there is such a shortage, but it has been crazy. We use Friskies Pate and Friskies Shreds. We usually get these at Sam’s Club because it’s the least expensive, but they have been out for over a month. We watch Sam’s app daily to see if it has come back in stock and buy as much as possible when it does. It’s very stressful.
Currently our bank account is very low. We have $968 in the account. This is very scary. We must buy cat food, litter, and have a vet balance of a little over $500 right now.
These are our current wish lists. Food and litter are always a top priority.

Cash donations are even more important for us. Or you can donate using one of the following methods:
PayPal: yogieandfriends@hotmail.com
Venmo: YogieCats
And as always, you can mail a check or money order to: Yogie and Friends, 128 Fob Lane, Frierson, LA 71027.
KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS: Attention Kroger Shoppers. Our Kroger Community Rewards number is now GD567, and you can find us by our name as well, Yogie and Friends FIV Positive Cat Sanctuary. When you log into your Kroger account you can select us as your charity of choice and a portion of your purchase will be donated to our rescue sanctuary. This is one of the easiest ways to help us financially when you go grocery shopping. It takes nothing out of your pockets either. How cool is that?
Please consider helping our cats when you shop at Kroger. We deeply appreciate your help.
SPONSORSHIP: We often speak of our sponsorship program and right now we are really trying hard to get all our cats sponsored. Sponsorship is a wonderful way to help support our cats. By sponsoring one of our Yogie cats, you will be providing food, limited medical care (we know that medical bills can get extremely high and do not expect a sponsor to cover it. Unless they can, and want to), and their basic care and support. 100% of the sponsorship goes to the care of these animals. If each cat had a regular, monthly, sponsor, it would help ease the financial burden of care for the animals we provide sanctuary for.
Please note that more than one person may sponsor a cat, but rest assured that all sponsored funds are used for the ongoing care of our cats.
You can sponsor a cat for just $15 a month, $45 a quarter, or $180 a year. You can always contribute more. It all helps a great deal.
If you choose to sponsor a cat via PayPal or Venmo, please let us know the name of the cat you would like to sponsor.
WE CURRENTLY CARE FOR 63 CATS, as well as several feral cats we care for:

March 2023 Update
Greetings Yogie Fans!
Welcome March! It sure doesn’t feel like it. We need air conditioning already. Hope this is not a sign of a very hot summer!

Sasha
SASHA: Our sweet Sasha crossed the rainbow bridge on February 1st. She was taken to the vet for what at first appeared to be a severe urinary tract infection. Her white blood count was so high it didn’t even register. Her red blood count was so low she required a blood transfusion. She had to be put under sedation to access a vein. She was a very sick girl, riddled with cancer, and we did not want her to suffer. She was a sweet, sweet, once feral, cat. She was a hard loss for us. R.I.P. Sasha.
SHARON DECARLO: We are sad to share that one of the Shreveport-Bossier areas animal advocates died on February 25th as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident the previous week. Sharon DeCarlo was very well known in our area. She was a volunteer at Robinson’s Rescue Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic. Sharon would photograph all the animals after surgery on rescue day, then post them on the website and Facebook to get more notice for adoptions. She really loved animals. Sharon retired from Bossier Parish Community College where she taught math for several years. Sharon was a very kind lady who will be missed by so many.
VET ISSUES: On February 9th Draco, Eragon, and Flynn were neutered. They are all doing very well. Now, we want to trap, spay/neuter, return (TNR), nine feral cats and kittens we have seen between our Bossier, and Frierson, location. It is a never-ending battle to keep these colonies fixed because of dumped and abandoned cats and kittens.
GEEK’D CON: We are sorry to announce we had to pull out of the Geek’d Con event this year. Our Director had an injury back in November that now requires surgery. She is holding off till after the bake sale, but the doctor said she cannot do things the things that doing an event like this requires, so we pulled out. Everything will be fine, but this involves at least four to six months physical therapy and recovery. Thank you for understanding.
FOOD AND LITTER: The need here is constant. You can always help with our Amazon, or Chewy, wish lists. Chewy tends to cost less than Amazon.
We buy Royal Canin Urinary S/O, at $99.99 a 17.6-pound bag. Royal Canin Ultamino at $63.99 a 5.5-pound bag. These are all prescription diets, but they are working as they should, so in the long run prescription food versus vet bills. This does not include tax. Being a non-profit does not mean we do not have to pay sales tax.
