Tigger   29 July 2001 – 6 July 2020

Hello Friends,
We are sad to report that our beloved black leopard, Tigger, had to be humanely euthanized yesterday. He had lost the use of his rear legs, and after an in depth evaluation from the veterinarian, the most difficult, but kindest decision, was made. Fortunately, Tim was able to go over and be with him during that time. Tigger arrived at Yogie and Friends when he was six weeks old and was bonded with Tim. He went gently with the one Tigger loved most.

June 2020

Greetings Yogie and Friends Fans!

We pray this newsletter finds you all safe, and well.

There is not a lot going on at this time since events and fundraisers have been shut down because of the corona virus. This is a really difficult time, in an already difficult situation, for all non-profits. Your help is needing even more so than before.

GIVE FOR GOOD: Thank you to all who donated during the Give for Good online giving event. This was a more difficult year for everyone since we were unable to hold events, and although we missed our goal, it had a good outcome. We appreciate our fans so much. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

FUNDRAISERS: We still have no idea when we can do in person fundraisers. We miss seeing our fans in person, and we desperately need the funds for our animals. We understand the reasons why we cannot do them at this time, but hopefully soon, we will be able to do so. Thank you for your consideration and patience during this difficult time for our country, and, world.

CRITICAL NEEDS: Right now, we need a great deal of help with items such as cat litter and food. We really need Scoopable cat litter, no lightweight as they can present a dangerous ingestion and blockage issue, and we use Friskies canned pate, Fancy Feast canned pate, and Purina Naturals dry food. We have an Amazon wish list that makes it easier to order, or you can order any other way that is convenient to you. If you donate cash, check, or PayPal, we can purchase the items as well.

RUSSELL: One of our non-positive cats, Russell, who is about 11 years old, had stopped eating. He was licking like a cat does prior to vomiting, and his behavior had changed so we brought him to the vet. They gave him a shot that helps with appetite and left him overnight at the vet for observation. We are glad we did so. He had not eaten, used the litter box, and began drooling. The vet ran blood work, which looked surprisingly good, but x-rays showed a possible blockage in his intestines, or possibly just a big gas pocked. They gave him GasX, but there was no improvement. His temperature fluctuated between 104 degrees, then normal, which is 101. He remained in the hospital for a week, given I.V. fluids, then on the fifth day began eating. He is back with us and doing well. The vet bill was just under $800. This is a big hit at a time when funds are critically low and nothing much coming in. We hope you can help us build our coffers back up.

Russell

GATSBY: Gatsby is still on medication and seems to be improving. We will take him for a follow-up visit with our vet to see if he is still anemic. We hope he is not since we are trying to avoid a blood transfusion.

Gatsby

CLAIRE: The sweet little tortie kitten found on the street in Bossier City, is still very pregnant. With veterinarians being forced to stop spay/neuter procedures, the TNR program has also been stopped, resulting in a great deal of new kittens in the community. This is not going to be a good thing since kitten season was already in full force when things were shut down. In the meantime, Claire is safe, will deliver here five kittens in a safe, clean, environment. We will partner with one of the cat rescues that does adoptions when her kittens are old enough. In the meantime, we press on.

Claire

SPONSORSHIP:  We are beginning to get sponsors for our cats. This is a great way to help support our cats. By sponsoring one of the FIV cats you will be providing food, medical care, and their basic care and support. 100% of the sponsorship goes to the care of these animals. If each cat had a regular, monthly, sponsor, it would help ease the burden of care for the animals we provide sanctuary for. Please consider sponsoring one of our animals.  The cats really need you.

Please note that more than one person may sponsor a cat but rest assured that all sponsor funds are used for the ongoing care of our cats.

You can sponsor a cat for just $15 a month, $45 a quarter, or $180 a year.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT: Your donations are the most important thing to help us with our animals. We are a 501(C)(3) non-profit, in good standing. Your donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. We can really use help with funds to buy food, veterinarian care, and everyday care of the wellbeing of the animals. Thank you for your support.

CRITICAL NEEDS: Vet care is always a primary need. Scoopable cat litter, preferable unscented, but we will take any. We feed Friskies or Fancy Feast canned pate, but we have chosen to change to Purina Naturals for our dry food. We are trying to get our cats on an even better diet. We do have several cats on an expensive urinary tract formula that we have to get at the vet. We go through a tremendous amount of cat litter. If you can help with a monetary donation, please do. We really hope you can help us in this area.

We are spending about $1500 a month on food and litter.

AMAZON WISH LIST: We have updated our Amazon wish list, we have added much needed food items and cat litter. Also, when you shop via Smile.Amazon.com you can select Yogie and Friends as your charity of choice and they will donate a percentage of the sales to us. It is an extremely easy way to help.

You can also choose to pay the fees by selecting the Friends and Family option in PayPal ensuring we would receive the entire amount of your donation. Our PayPal is: yogieandfriends@hotmail.com

CHEWY: Do you shop for pet food and supplies at Chewy. Well, we are a pet partner with Chewy.com. Enter the Chewy website from the link on the Yogie and Friends website and we will get a portion of the sales. This is a great way to help our cats and we hope you will select us as your charity. We recently celebrated our 20th anniversary!

GIVE FOR GOOD: Give for Good is this coming Tuesday, 5 May 2020. This is an on-line giving program and something we participate in every year. This year the on-line giving is even more important since we cannot do any events in conjunction with the on-line program. More than ever, we need your help. Claire

VETERINARY ISSUES/UPDATES: The new kitten, Claire, I had found near my home in Bossier, and was in heat, has a vet visit, tested for FIV/FeLV and is negative, then vaccinated. The vet said she is 8-10 months old. The only issue we have is that we were unable to get her spayed since Robinson’s Rescue had to close due to the stay at home order. So, since she is away from any intact males, we wait. Unfortunately, Claire, had developed a fever of 104 and she was not responding to normal treatment at the sanctuary, so she was brought into Airline Animal Health and Surgery Clinic on March 29th. The concern with a slightly bloated belly was, did she have Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP)? That is a feline coronavirus disease, which is deadly. The other question I had prior to bringing her in was, is she already pregnant? Well, good news. NOT FIP! Bad news, is YES, she IS pregnant. Since we rescued her off the streets on the 8th, we would not see it and cats hide pregnancy almost until the day of delivery. The vet said she is advanced, and she could see at least 5 kittens on ultrasound. This is NOT something we needed. But we will figure it out. Then of course, it is the continuation of vet bills.

Gatsby: One of our older, FIV+, cats, Gatsby, is losing weight and not grooming himself. His last vet visit recommended some dental work, which we had scheduled before the lockdown, could be the cause. He goes to our other vet, Halcyon, on Monday for evaluation and possible dental cleaning/extractions. We will see.

You can help with our vet bills directly by calling Airline Animal Health and Surgery Clinic at 318-747-5747,

Or PayPal at yogieandfriends@hotmail.com

FUNDRAISERS: We have no idea when we can do in person fundraisers at this time. We miss seeing our fans in person, and we desperately need the funds for our animals. We understand the reasons why we cannot do them at this time, but hopefully soon, we will be able to do so. Thank you for your consideration and patience during this difficult time for our country, and, world.

REVAMPING THE PROPERTY: Tim has been working hard these past two weeks on taking down all the fences and old habitats on our Frierson property. It was far overdue. It is also a great deal of work. But the property really needs to be cleaned up for any future possibility of selling it and relocating. We have some repairs to do in the cat building. Believe it or not, ants, have damaged a part of the floor inside the building. We hope to replace the current laminate floor we have with the vinyl plank floor. They install the same way the laminate does, but it is more waterproof than laminate is. It is what we put inside the new building and we love it.

SPONSORSHIP:  We are beginning to get sponsors for our cats. This is a great way to help support our cats. By sponsoring one of the FIV cats you will be providing food, medical care, and their basic care and support. 100% of the sponsorship goes to the care of these animals.
