December 2018 Newsletter

Hi Friends,
Things have been pretty hectic between vet care and trying to raise funds for our cats. BUT, that is what it’s all about.
I am out of my boot for the broken ankle and have physical therapy twice a week, but I am healed enough now to do the finish work in the new cat building so we can move the cats in.

Tim and I went to visit Moses in Branson, Missouri from  4-7 November. He is doing well and responded immediately when he heard my voice. Can you believe he will be 13 in February? We also visit Tigger at Tiger Creek in Tyler, Texas quite often. Tigger turned 17 in July. Tiger Creek changed his name to Bagheera, but he is still Tigger and that is what we call him when we see him. I mean, seriously, after 17 years he isn’t going to respond to anything else. Lol! I’d love to get Moses over there for distance reasons, but it’s all good.

Mocha and Latte

I am currently fostering a mom, Mocha, and her baby, Latte (who may be a boy, but still a little too early to tell) that had been abandoned, which is totally illegal, on a porch in the freezing cold rain, at Port City Cat Rescue. Since our new building isn’t 100% complete to move our FIV+ cats into, I told them I would foster until the tiny baby, about 3 weeks old, was weaned and strong enough to be brought to the rescue. This way it’s much like quarantine for mom and baby. I’m just glad that we can be of service to a fellow cat rescue. Mom and baby are doing very well. They will have a follow-up soon with Dr. Squires.
The fab four kittens I was fostering for them have ALL been adopted! This is always a happy thing for us. I miss Yardley so much, since I found him as a little baby, in my yard. I am, however, happy to share the kitty wealth. Lol!

Sunny pre-surgery

One of our FIV+ cats, and one of Dr. Core’s patients that we took into the sanctuary, Sunny, was diagnosed with an eye condition called, Spastic Entropion. This caused his eyelids to roll inward and the eyelashes to scratch his corneas. He had ulcers and required eye drops and cleaning daily. It was painful and he was miserable. We found out there was a surgery that could be done to correct it, and on November 13th, Sunny had a successful surgery by Dr. Core at Airline Animal Health and Surgery Clinic. It was a little pricey, $815, but long term it isn’t. No more pain, no eye drops, no poor vision. He is acting more comfortable and plays like never before. We also let him come to the Santa Photo shoot fundraiser. Sunny is awesome!

October 2018 Newsletter

Hello Yogie Friends!

October has arrived, it is “officially” fall, except here in the south! Temperatures are still in the low to mid 90’s. Don’t forget that we are still dealing with pests like mosquitos, fleas, ticks, and the like here, as if it is summer. We need to continue preventatives throughout the year here since it takes into consideration the life cycle of these pests. We want you and your pets to remain safe and free from parasite born illnesses.

PET PHOTOS WITH SANTA: Our friends at Cowen Photo Studio in Shreveport are working with us on a Pet Photo with Santa Fundraiser at their studio on Saturday, November 24th from 2 – 4 pm.  We love how Neal Cowen is Santa and, in our opinion, and that of many others who bring their children to him for Santa photos, is the best-looking Santa we have seen around here. Once we work out the times of the photo shoot, and any details regarding the animals, we will post it on our website and Facebook page. Watch for more info.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST: We will have a pancake breakfast at TaMolly’s Mexican Restaurant in Bossier City, on Saturday morning, 17 November from 7 am-10 am. Yogie and Friends will receive 100% of the proceeds from this fundraiser, which is awesome. Most food fundraising events only give 10%. We are going to have several raffle items available at this event. This is also an animal friendly event. In other words, you CAN bring your dog to this event. We ask that you use common sense when doing so. If you bring a dog, it MUST be leashed. There may be some other considerations regarding the type of animal allowed as well.

We can also use some volunteer help regarding presale of tickets, drivers who can deliver to local businesses that would like to participate, but cannot leave work to do so, and help at the event itself. Please contact us if you can do so.

Tickets will be $5 for pancakes. You can add eggs and/or sausage patty, for an additional $6, or $7.

SPONSORSHIP:  Sponsorship is a very important way to help our animals. By sponsoring one of the FIV cats you will be providing food, medical care, and their basic care and support. 100% of the sponsorship goes to the care of these animals. If each cat had a regular, monthly, sponsor, it would help ease the burden of care for the animals we provide sanctuary for. Would you please consider sponsoring one of our animals? We really need you.

Please note that more than one person may sponsor a cat but rest assured that all sponsor funds are used for the ongoing care of our cats.

You can sponsor a cat for just $15 a month, $45 a quarter, or $180 a year.

CRITICAL NEEDS: We have had some big hits in the vet bills department this past month. We desperately need your help to build the coffers back up to be prepared for any medical emergencies. We also can use Scoopable cat litter, preferable unscented, but we will take any, as well as cat food. We feed Friskies or Fancy Feast canned pate, or Purina Cat Chow complete. We do have some on an expensive urinary tract formula that we have to get at the vet. If you can help with a monetary donation, please do. We really hope you can help us in this area.

PAYPAL: Did you know you can do automatic monthly donations to Yogie and Friends via PayPal? This is an easy and effective way to help our fundraising for the animals. You can also choose to pay the fees by selecting the Friends and Family option in PayPal ensuring we would receive the entire amount of your donation.

Our PayPal is: yogieandfriends@hotmail.com

CHEWY: Do you shop for pet food and supplies at Chewy. Well, we are a pet partner with Chewy.com. Enter the Chewy website from the link on the Yogie and Friends website and we will get a portion of the sales. This is a great way to help our cats and we hope you will select us as your charity. You can use this link with our partner number:  www.chewy.com/rp/6019

AMAZON WISH LIST: If you shop via Amazon.com you select Yogie and Friends as your charity of choice. They will donate a percentage of the sales to us. It’s a very easy way to help.

We also have an Amazon wish list to help feed our cats and kittens. We need you!

July 2018 Newsletter

Greetings Yogie Fans!

PAISLEY: Paisley was one of the first FIV/FeLV positive cats to arrive at Yogie and Friends. A local veterinarian asked if we would take her because he didn’t feel it necessary to euthanize a cat just because they test positive for the virus. Paisley always sounds like she has the sniffles and the vet said she didn’t have any infections but would always sound this way. Recently we noticed a little weight loss and wanted to get her checked to make sure nothing bad was happening. Our vet said there wasn’t a big weight loss, but she prescribed a medication we’ve never used and nose drops. Her blood work was sent out to the lab for a more in-depth analysis. Our vet called us and gave us some very surprising, and unexpected, news. Paisley tested NEGATIVE for both FIV and FeLV. This was amazing news. Her labs did show that she has Corona virus, which is very common, and for Toxoplasmosis, which was a bit of a surprise to us. Both are very treatable, and the vet said pose no threat to us. We also are very diligent in our cleaning. The good news is, that after a month of the medications she will be on we will be able to get with one of the other cat rescues that do adoption days at Petco. We would love to get her adopted. We do adopt our cats out to people that understand FIV/FeLV, but it is not a common practice. This made us all very happy. It’s also why we periodically retest. Yay Paisley!

PAYPAL: Did you know you can do automatic monthly donations to Yogie and Friends via PayPal? This is an easy and effective way to help our fundraising for the animals. CRITICAL NEEDS: We have had over $2000.00 in vet bills this past month. This means our coffers are at about $1000, and that is for cat food, cat litter, veterinarian care, and electric. We appreciate our fans,

You can use this link with our partner number: www.chewy.com/rp/6019

NEW CAT BUILDING: The two lofts and all the trim, except base board, have been completed in the new cat building. The lofts are painted and then the trim will be caulked and painted as well. The vinyl plank flooring has been purchased and we got a great price on that. We need to raise some more funds to complete that installation and the base board. The labor is only $300, which is very inexpensive. It’s the same person who did the lofts and trim. It’s looking great! We have had a lot of vet bills this month, so the floor is a lower priority now, but we expect it to be very soon.
