September 2023 Newsletter
Hello Yogie Fans!
Welcome to September. Now, let’s bring on some cooler weather so it FEELS like September!
Our Fall Bake sale is scheduled for September 23rd, Jenny’s shoulder injury from November was doing great, but now it looks like she will need surgery and she is limited in the use of her arm. If you would like to, and care, help contribute baked items to the bake sale we certainly would appreciate your help. Just let us know.

Olaf
OLAF: We are sad to report that our sweet, beautiful, Olaf, has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. This was an unexpected thing. Our director had noticed he seemed a little “off.” Nothing obvious, but he just wasn’t himself. He was still eating and drinking, didn’t sound sick with anything like an upper respiratory infection of UTI. He just wasn’t his usual vocal, or cuddly, self. A Cat Scan revealed a tumor the size of Jenny’s fist in one of his lungs. It was wrapped around blood vessels near his aorta and diaphragm. On the way back to the sanctuary he had a seizure and Jenny, still close to the clinic, rushed him back. It was the most difficult decision to let him go because he looked so perfect and normal, but it was obvious that medically he was not. This cat comforted the Six Pack kittens when they arrived, he was one of the most beloved cat ambassadors for us and visitors just loved him. We love all our cats and will always do the best for them, but it is never easy. R.I.P. our sweet Olaf. You are truly missed. 2014 – 28 August 2023
LUCIA: Lucia is our deaf cat that arrived at the sanctuary with a broken jaw. Over time we saw other signs she was most likely hit by a car and rolled. She aggressively attacks her own tail to the point she has had two minor amputations. Yet she still attacked it. Our director recently went to visit her family and when she returned, she noticed Lucia was growling, isolating, and just not acting normally. There were no visible signs of injury or illness, but she was obviously in some distress. When she was picked up to put in the kennel, she got very aggressive and a lot of blood started coming out near her tail, but we didn’t know where it was coming from, so she was rushed to the ER. She had attacked herself so much she had a very large abscess on the top of her tail. She also had a great deal of necrotic tissue. We didn’t know the extent of the infection, but she remained in the hospital for about 10 days and received laser therapy. Thankfully it did the job. We feared they were going to need to debride the area, which is terrible, but it was not necessary. The vet also said she has Megacolon and is on Lactulose and a special diet. Because she may have nerve damage, or behavioral issues that may be causing her to attack herself. She has also been placed on Gabapentin. That seems to be helping and she will have a follow-up on the 22nd of September.
VET CARE: With Olaf and Lucia’s recent medical issues, our vet bill was over $3000. Thanks to some great fans it is down to about $1300. The major illnesses make it hard to get a lot of preventative care for our geriatric population, but we are working on it. Any help with the vet bill is always appreciated and you can call a donation to the vet clinic directly at 318-747-5757.
FOOD AND LITTER:
These are our current wish lists. Food and litter are always a top priority. We continuously need help with these items.

Cash donations are even more important for us. Or you can donate using one of the following methods:
PayPal: yogieandfriends@hotmail.com
Venmo: YogieCats
And as always, you can mail a check or money order to: Yogie and Friends, 128 Fob Lane, Frierson, LA 71027.
KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS: Attention Kroger Shoppers. Please consider helping our cats when you shop at Kroger. Our Kroger Community Rewards number is GD567, and you can find us by our name as well, Yogie and Friends FIV Positive Cat Sanctuary. When you log into your Kroger account you can select us as your charity of choice and a portion of your purchase will be donated to our rescue sanctuary. This is one of the easiest ways to help us financially when you go grocery shopping. It takes nothing out of your pockets either. How cool is that?
SPONSORSHIP: We often speak of our sponsorship program and right now we are really trying hard to get all our cats sponsored. Sponsorship is a wonderful way to help support our cats. By sponsoring one of our Yogie cats, you will be providing food, limited medical care (we know that medical bills can get extremely high and do not expect a sponsor to cover it. Unless they can, and want to), and their basic care and support. 100% of the sponsorship goes to the care of these animals. If each cat had a regular, monthly, sponsor, it would help ease the financial burden of care for the animals we provide sanctuary for.
Please note that more than one person may sponsor a cat, but rest assured that all sponsored funds are used for the ongoing care of our cats.
You can sponsor a cat for just $15 a month, $45 a quarter, or $180 a year. You can always contribute more. It all helps a great deal.
If you choose to sponsor a cat via PayPal or Venmo, please let us know the name of the cat you would like to sponsor.
WE CURRENTLY CARE FOR 63 CATS, as well as several feral cats we care for:
