September 2019 Newsletter

Greetings Fans!

Well, we decided not to send the Fab Five (Truvy, Gladys, J.D., Sophie, and Mia) to Canada after all. We decided to keep them here locally to be placed for adoption. They are now at the PetSmart on Youree Drive in Shreveport. We know they will get great homes here.

Quinn

QUINN: Quinn, the badly injured kitten we rescued from Caddo Parish Animal Services (CPAS) that his leg amputated, has completed his laser therapy and rehab. This kitten is amazing! Despite the pelvic injury, and leg amputation, this little guy runs, plays with the other kittens, and can climb! He will climb up into the loft in our cat building. Nothing is holding him back. He has reached 4 pounds. We see good things for this little guy, and we are happy to have been able to save his life. We aren’t sure at this time if we will place him up for adoption or not. We have time to make this decision.

We are still recovering from Quinn’s vet care and if you can help us build the coffers back up from his $2000 vet bill, it would be greatly appreciated.

FRANK: Frank is the sweet, Flame Point Siamese kitten, we are still fostering. He has two people interested in adopting him, so we don’t know how much longer we will have him with us. He is now a whopping 3.6 pounds. Lol! He will be adopted with an approved application via Port City Cat Rescue.

VETERINARY ISSUES/UPDATES:

We have several cats who are now required to be on a special diet for urinary tract issues. Mittens, Munch, Mama, Brexit, and now, Sunny, need to be on the S/O Urinary diet. This is to prevent crystals from developing in the bladder and causing blockages, which could in severe cases, cause death. Brexit was the most severe case we had with a blockage, and Mama had a large bladder stone requiring surgery. We now must feed them the Purina Pro Plan Urinary S/O diet. The 16-pound bag costs $63. If anyone would like to sponsor purchasing a bag monthly, this would be a great help to the sanctuary.

FALL BAKE SALE: Our fall bake sale is scheduled for September 28th at Petco on Youree Drive in Shreveport. It will be held from 11a.m.- 3p.m. We have a longtime fan who is very experienced in baking gluten free baked goods and has offered to make several goodies for our bake sale. This makes us very happy since we get lots of requests for some specialized baked goods. We also have our regular vegetarian/vegan bakers making some items as well. If you would like to help us with baking any special goodies, then please let us know. It would be nice to have a unique variety of items.

NEW CAT BUILDING: The new cat building has been getting a great deal of use with our fosters and special needs kittens. Now, we are preparing to raise the funds to build the outdoor catio portion of the new building. We have investigated several ideas on how to proceed and have decided to go with a deck style catio. This will be built like any deck on the outside of a home, but we will enclose it so no cats can get out, and no predators can get in. It will keep the cats safe. At the same time, it will be much easier to disinfect and treat for flea/tick prevention, versus having the catio a grass enclosure that requires a more difficulty pest control, or cleaning. We are waiting on the quotes for the work.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT: Your donations are the most important thing to help us with our animals. We are a 501(C)(3) non-profit, in good standing. Your donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. We can really use help with funds to buy food, veterinarian care, and everyday care of the wellbeing of the animals. Thank you for your support.

CRITICAL NEEDS: Vet care is always a primary need. Scoopable cat litter, preferable unscented, but we will take any, as well as cat food, are a given. We feed Friskies or Fancy Feast canned pate, or Purina Cat Chow complete. We do have some on an expensive urinary tract formula that we have to get at the vet. We go through a tremendous amount of cat litter. If you can help with a monetary donation, please do. We really hope you can help us in this area.

AMAZON WISH LIST: We have updated our Amazon wish list, we have added the Seresto flea collars, and some other much needed food items. Also, when you shop via Smile.Amazon.com you can select Yogie and Friends as your charity of choice and they will donate a percentage of the sales to us. It’s a very easy way to help.

We also have an Amazon wish list to help feed our cats and kittens. We need you!

SPONSORSHIP:  Sponsorship is a very important way to help our animals. By sponsoring one of the FIV cats you will be providing food, medical care, and their basic care and support. 100% of the sponsorship goes to the care of these animals. If each cat had a regular, monthly, sponsor, it would help ease the burden of care for the animals we provide sanctuary for. Would you please consider sponsoring one of our animals? We really need you.

Please note that more than one person may sponsor a cat but rest assured that all sponsor funds are used for the ongoing care of our cats.

You can sponsor a cat for just $15 a month, $45 a quarter, or $180 a year.

PAYPAL: Did you know you can do automatic monthly donations to Yogie and Friends via PayPal? This is an easy and effective way to help our fundraising for the animals. You can also choose to pay the fees by selecting the Friends and Family option in PayPal ensuring we would receive the entire amount of your donation. Our PayPal is: yogieandfriends@hotmail.com

CHEWY: Do you shop for pet food and supplies at Chewy. Well, we are a pet partner with Chewy.com. Enter the Chewy website from the link on the Yogie and Friends website and we will get a portion of the sales. This is a great way to help our cats and we hope you will select us as your charity. You can use this link with our partner number:  www.chewy.com/rp/6019
