October 2024 Newsletter
Greetings Yogie Fans!
Happy Fall! Well, technically it is, but it sure does not feel like it here! Soon we hope. Soon!
SMUDGE: On Monday afternoon, September 23rd, Jenny was cleaning the loft in one of the cat buildings when she heard Smudge coughing like she was coughing up a fur ball. The next thing she saw was Smudge coughing up an enormous amount of blood. She ran to Smudge, wrapped her in towels, and rushed out of the building to bring her to Valor Emergency Veterinary Hospital. She knew at this point that Smudge would need to be humanely euthanized, but she never even made it to the truck before Smudge had died. This was a traumatic, and horrific, event for Smudge, and devastating for Jenny.
Smudge was born at Yogie and Friends to Luna, on May 7h 2012, with three other kittens, Lucy, Ducky, and Squeak. A very pregnant Luna was found in an abandoned house in Bossier City, and we took her in to give birth safely, and in a peaceful environment.
The vet said it appears that Smudge had a pulmonary embolism.
We will miss this sweet girl. R.I.P. Smudge. You were very loved.
FALL BAKE SALE: We will hold our fall bake sale on Saturday, October 12th, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Petco, on Youree Drive, in Shreveport. We can really use some help from our volunteers bakers. If you are someone who can, and would like to, help bake for this event, we would very much appreciate it. We will begin setting up about 9:30 a.m. If you do bake we just ask that you wrap, or contain, the items nicely, and make certain you identify anything with nuts. Its very important to make sure we do that for nut allergies. We look forward to seeing you at the bake sale.
HONEY AND KITTENS: Honey and her kittens are doing very well. The kittens will begin their first set of shots this week and hopefully begin their adoption journey soon. Honey is going to be getting spayed next month and placed for adoption. She is a super sweet cat and exceptionally good mom.
VET CARE:
Uncle Fester: Uncle Fester is responding well to the medication for his nose and hopefully gets an all clear from the vet. Once we do, he will receive his vaccination updates and then be placed for adoption. He is FIV negative.
ANGEL: Angel’s liver bilirubin was worse on her recent vet visit. It was so high it was off the chart. She was kept on fluids as an inpatient for two days and seems to be otherwise well. She also has developed uveitis in her right eye but is responding well to the eye drops. Jenny will give her subcutaneous fluids weekly to help with her liver values. We recently found her laying on the floor and thought she was dead. She is a surprise to us and the veterinarian that she is still eating and drinking well and does not act as sick as she really is. We are hoping that the weekly fluids may help decrease her bilirubin values.
LOGAN: Logan is the sweet boy he went in for a dental procedure whose pre-anesthesia kidney values were bad enough that he could not have the procedure. He spent two days in the hospital on fluids and medication and responded very well. He does have uveitis in his right eye that is going to have a follow-up this week.
With medicine and several medical issues with the cats, our vet bill is over $1200. It is stressful, and as always, we can use your help.
You can call the vet clinic directly at 318-747-5747 and donate over the phone.

KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS: Attention Kroger Shoppers. Please consider helping our cats when you shop at Kroger. Our Kroger Community Rewards number is GD567, and you can find us by our name as well, Yogie and Friends FIV Positive Cat Sanctuary. When you log into your Kroger account you can select us as your charity of choice and a part of your purchase will be donated to our rescue sanctuary.
SPONSORSHIP: We often speak of our sponsorship program and right now we are really trying hard to get all our cats sponsored. Sponsorship is a wonderful way to help support our cats. By sponsoring one of our Yogie cats, you will be providing food, limited medical care (we know that medical bills can get extremely high and do not expect a sponsor to cover it. Unless they can, and want to), and their basic care and support. 100% of the sponsorship goes to the care of these animals. If each cat had a regular, monthly, sponsor, it would help ease the financial burden of care for the animals we provide sanctuary for.
Please note that more than one person may sponsor a cat but rest assured that all sponsored funds are used for the ongoing care of our cats.
You can sponsor a cat for just $15 a month, $45 a quarter, or $180 a year. You can always contribute more. It all helps a great deal.
If you choose to sponsor a cat via PayPal or Venmo, please let us know the name of the cat you would like to sponsor.
WE CURRENTLY CARE FOR 63 CATS, as well as several feral cats we care for:
