August 2024 Newsletter
Greetings Yogie Fans!
August is here and summer is back! We are facing some hot temperatures this week and next. Maybe longer. Please be safe out there. Please check on the feral cats and wildlife you may be providing water for. Keep the water in shaded areas so it is not hot and developing algae. Cool, clean, water, is important. For us and them!
FINANCIAL SUPPORT: As many other non-profit animal rescues, we struggle financially. It is not easy and not everyone agrees with the work we do and that we focus on cats. We understand that everyone has their personal passions. There is nothing wrong with that. We all have our areas we love, and choose, to focus on. We can have that passion for more than one thing. It is your love and passion for cats and the work we do that gets us through. We never take it for granted and appreciate it more than you know.
Right now, our checking account is below $700. We are fortunate that our vet works with us on our bill. Most will not do that.
There are many ways you can help us. Monetary is always a big, important aspect. You can donate money, food, litter, or even sponsor a cat.
PAYPAL: PayPal has a program where you can do automatic monthly donations to Yogie and Friends. This is an easy and effective way to help our fundraising for the animals. You can also choose to pay the fees by selecting the Friends and Family option in PayPal ensuring we receive the entire amount of your donation. Our PayPal is: yogieandfriends@hotmail.com
We also have Venmo and that is @YogieCats
VET CARE:
Uncle Fester: Uncle Fester is one of our negative virus cats who has been dealing with a fungal infection on his nose. He was successfully treated for it about a year ago, but now it is back with a vengeance. This is a different type of fungus that the vet has us treating more aggressively and it is working better. We are treating him with an oral medication, Intrafungal, and it is a stronger, much better, medicine. The aggressive treatment is necessary to avoid the fungus spreading into his nose and sinuses. You can even see in the photo the improvement with just four treatments.
Once he is better, he will be placed up for adoption. He is a super sweet, and super chill, boy!
Blackie: Blackie had some episodes of bloody diarrhea and slight weight loss. He is about 17 years old, so we always want to ensure it is nothing more serious. He is dual diagnosed, which is FIV/FeLV positive, cat. Surprisingly, his labs were not too bad. Slightly elevated white count, which is good to even show he has them being immune compromised, no fever, no liver or kidney issues, and other than being slightly underweight, he is in surprisingly good shape. He is on oral medication for five days to ensure there is not any infection, then back to the Frierson location.
Bandit: Bandit is still hanging in there. She had a slight weight drop this past week and a half but has been gaining weight again. She likes being with the Director and spoiled. Having the form of coronavirus she has means she needs to not be around the others, but she is fine with that. We just would love to see her put on another pound.
Of course, with all this we are back up on the vet bill. Intrafungal is over $60 a bottle, so that adds up. Our bill is back, over $1800. We really need a break because we have some incredibly old cats and that often means age-related issues. Paws and claws crossed we do not!
You can call the vet clinic directly at 318-747-5747 and donate over the phone.
Or you can PayPal at yogieandfriends@hotmail.com
Or Venmo at YogieCats
FOOD AND SUPPLIES: We are sharing this information again so you can better see what our needs are. We have sixty-two cats between the Frierson and Bossier facilities. Frierson has seventeen cats, and the rest are in Bossier. We go through a great deal of food and litter. Here is a breakdown of food and litter:
18 Boxes of 60 count canned and ten bags of 25-pound Cat Chow = $1143.26 for 4 weeks
40 Pails of 42-pound cat litter = $784.40 for 4 weeks
Food and litter totals for 4 weeks = $1927.66
This does not include the prescription food, which is $237.80 per month.
We also have eleven cats on daily medications.
As you can see this is a lot of money. We have been fortunate with kind donors, but it is not an easy task.
We can always use your help.
PayPal is the best, and quickest, way to help. Then we can immediately go buy the supplies.

KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS: Attention Kroger Shoppers. Please consider helping our cats when you shop at Kroger. Our Kroger Community Rewards number is GD567, and you can find us by our name as well, Yogie and Friends FIV Positive Cat Sanctuary. When you log into your Kroger account you can select us as your charity of choice and a part of your purchase will be donated to our rescue sanctuary. This is one of the easiest ways to help us financially when you go grocery shopping. It takes nothing out of your pockets either. How cool is that?
SPONSORSHIP: We often speak of our sponsorship program and right now we are really trying hard to get all our cats sponsored. Sponsorship is a wonderful way to help support our cats. By sponsoring one of our Yogie cats, you will be providing food, limited medical care (we know that medical bills can get extremely high and do not expect a sponsor to cover it. Unless they can, and want to), and their basic care and support. 100% of the sponsorship goes to the care of these animals. If each cat had a regular, monthly, sponsor, it would help ease the financial burden of care for the animals we provide sanctuary for.
Please note that more than one person may sponsor a cat but rest assured that all sponsored funds are used for the ongoing care of our cats.
You can sponsor a cat for just $15 a month, $45 a quarter, or $180 a year. You can always contribute more. It all helps a great deal.
If you choose to sponsor a cat via PayPal or Venmo, please let us know the name of the cat you would like to sponsor.
WE CURRENTLY CARE FOR 62 CATS, as well as several feral cats we care for:
