April 2024 Update

Greetings Yogie Fans!

We hope this newsletter finds you happy and well. It is not actually April yet, but the 30th of March, but we wanted to get our best wishes out to you all for a happy, and safe, Easter holiday.

As some of you know, Jenny had an unexpected medical emergency that put her in the hospital for four days. She went to the VA on the 14th for stomach pain and fever, so a CAT scan was ordered with contrast dye and unfortunately with the antibiotics given and the dye created what is known as an Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). Fortunately, three days later she knew things were not right and she went to the ER at the VA hospital. Her labs indicated a dangerously high creatinine level, and the doctor immediately admitted her. She was facing dialysis as treatment. She has had another trip to the ER since, and things are improving, but the doctors said it will take at least a month of care to get through this, but she should make a full recovery. She is in a great deal of pain, but is getting through. It makes her nervous, and she is working hard to get well. She went through ten bags of I.V. fluids and said she does not have any wrinkles on her hands right now. Lol! She is not out of the woods but is improving daily.

Unfortunately, we were unable to hold our spring bake sale as a result and that is a big hit in our wallet. We truly depend on the bake sales to get us through. Once we know what is going on and when things get back on track, we will schedule another bake sale. In the meantime, we appreciate all the help you can give.

VET CARE: We have had some big vet bills this past month. One cat, Liam, had emergency surgery and things developed requiring him to be sent on to the new, 24/7 Emergency Medical Hospital, Valor, in Bossier City. Unfortunately, the ER vets require payment after care and that was over $3000. So, Jenny put it on her own credit card. We sadly lost Liam. We still have an outstanding vet bill of a little over $1000 at our regular vet, Airline Animal Health and Surgery Clinic in Bossier City. If you would like to help with that you can call them directly at 318-747-5747.

We want to say a special thank you to the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux, and the other donors who helped with our huge vet bills. That helped a great deal to get it lowered.

BUILDING REPAIRS: Our repairman did much of the repair work on the Frierson location cat building. We hope to get back to finish the painting and touch up on that soon.

FOOD AND LITTER: We need food and litter in a bad way. We do not know why it is so difficult to find it here locally, but other rescuers have told us they are having difficulty finding it too. If you would like to help with this, you can go to our Chewy and Amazon links listed below. We appreciate your help.

ADDRESS CHANGE: A reminder that we have a new physical address for Yogie and Friends. It is now: Yogie and Friends, 140 Fob Lane, Frierson, LA 71027

We continue to need your help and there are a few ways you can do that. The following are the wish lists for supplies:

VET CARE: We currently have a small vet bill, but it is not as bad as we have seen.

Finn has a follow-up appointment with the vet on March 5th. He will also be checked for diabetes since he is doing much of the same thing that Pete did when he was diagnosed. We pray he is not diabetic.

You can help in any of the following ways. Thank you!

KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS:  Attention Kroger Shoppers. Please consider helping our cats when you shop at Kroger. Our Kroger Community Rewards number is GD567, and you can find us by our name as well, Yogie and Friends FIV Positive Cat Sanctuary. When you log into your Kroger account you can select us as your charity of choice and a portion of your purchase will be donated to our rescue sanctuary. This is one of the easiest ways to help us financially when you go grocery shopping. It takes nothing out of your pockets either. How cool is that?

SPONSORSHIP We often speak of our sponsorship program and right now we are really trying hard to get all our cats sponsored. Sponsorship is a wonderful way to help support our cats. By sponsoring one of our Yogie cats, you will be providing food, limited medical care (we know that medical bills can get extremely high and do not expect a sponsor to cover it. Unless they can, and want to), and their basic care and support. 100% of the sponsorship goes to the care of these animals. If each cat had a regular, monthly, sponsor, it would help ease the financial burden of care for the animals we provide sanctuary for.

Please note that more than one person may sponsor a cat but rest assured that all sponsored funds are used for the ongoing care of our cats.

You can sponsor a cat for just $15 a month, $45 a quarter, or $180 a year. You can always contribute more. It all helps a great deal.

If you choose to sponsor a cat via PayPal or Venmo, please let us know the name of the cat you would like to sponsor.

WE CURRENTLY CARE FOR 63 CATS, as well as several feral cats we care for:
