Greetings Yogie and Friends Fans!
We hope this newsletter finds you all safe and well. These are crazy times we are currently experiencing in our country, but we will get through it.
Due to the Coronavirus, we, as well as many other non-profits, had to cancel our fundraising events. We hate that this happened since it is one of the most important ways, we support our animals. But so many people are in an even more difficult position, and we pray we get through this soon.
Our biggest concerns are the same no matter. We need cat food, cat litter, and vet care. We have several animals on special prescription diets, as well as daily medications. We have been finding the cat food being sold out in almost every store, and, online. Fortunately, our order for the Frierson location came in about a week before this all happened. The Bossier location was a little more difficult, but we are managing. We get our cat litter at Sam’s Club and they have put a limit of one 42-pound pale. We go through 12 pales in a couple of weeks. Hopefully once panic and demand eases up, our supply chains will be replenished and that will ease up so we can get more. We still need your donations more than ever since we are unable to do our fundraisers. We hope you can help.
SAM AND MUFF: Our sweet Sam crossed the rainbow bridge on March 18th. There were no signs, or warning, but he suddenly became very ill. Cats often hide things and sometimes to the point it is too late to save them. Please don’t ask questions that we really have no answers for. The very difficult decision was made by our Director after expert vet consultation. He went gently in the arms of our Director.
Sam 21 April 2016 – 18 March 2020
Muff, a sweet, older cat, we got from Animal Welfare several years ago, crossed the rainbow bridge on March 24th around 7:30 p.m. Tim said she looked like she was sleeping, but realized she had just passed. He had seen her walking, somewhat wobbly, to her bed about 10 minutes prior, so he went to see if she was okay. She just went to sleep and passed on her own. We don’t know how old she was, but she was at least 14.
VETERINARY ISSUES/UPDATES: On March 25th we brought one of our cats, Munch, to Dr. Core for a dental CT and surgery for her bloody nose. He removed a large mass from her right nostril and said that the septum has a large hole in it. The mass was sent out to pathology. However, the next morning Dr. Core called and said the radiologist felt it looked malignant. The report came in today, and it is in fact, cancer. At this point Munch is comfortable, eating, drinking, and doing otherwise fine. We are choosing not to pursue treatment for her because it would require taking her to Dallas, Texas for radiation, at a cost of $6000-$8000. We feel that it not prudent. We love our animals, but we also know that some things are not the best choice. And, it would possibly not give her much more than a year, if lucky. The goal is now to just let her continue with the pampering she currently gets, and when quality of life becomes an issue, we will do the right thing for her.
NEW CAT BUILDING: The new catio is finally enclosed! The cats have been so happy and enjoy the fresh air in safety again. Nothing can get in and hurt them. And the cats cannot get out and get hurt or killed. Over the last week we have been letting the cats in each building out at the same time. So far, there has not been any fighting. That was a concern since the younger cats in the new building are playful and not always welcome by the older cats. But it has been working out well and we are enjoying sitting outside, drinking a cup of coffee, and watching them play.
SPONSORSHIP: We are working on biographies of all our cats at the sanctuary. We are working on getting good photos of them all and will post them on our website. We have people starting to sponsor our cats and that makes us very happy. Would you consider sponsoring a cat? This is a simple way you can help. Sponsorship is a very important way to help our animals. By sponsoring one of the FIV cats you will be providing food, medical care, and their basic care and support. 100% of the sponsorship goes to the care of these animals. If each cat had a regular, monthly, sponsor, it would help ease the burden of care for the animals we provide sanctuary for. Please consider sponsoring one of our animals. The cats really need you.
Please note that more than one person may sponsor a cat, but rest assured that all sponsor funds are used for the ongoing care of our cats.
You can sponsor a cat for just $15 a month, $45 a quarter, or $180 a year.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT: Your donations are the most important thing to help us with our animals. We are a 501(C)(3) non-profit, in good standing. Your donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. We can really use help with funds to buy food, veterinarian care, and everyday care of the wellbeing of the animals. Thank you for your support.
CRITICAL NEEDS: Vet care is always a primary need. Scoopable cat litter, preferable unscented, but we will take any. We feed Friskies or Fancy Feast canned pate, but we have chosen to change to Purina Naturals for our dry food. We are trying to get our cats on an even better diet. We do have several cats on an expensive urinary tract formula that we have to get at the vet. We go through a tremendous amount of cat litter. If you can help with a monetary donation, please do. We really hope you can help us in this area.
We are spending about $1500 a month on food and litter.
AMAZON WISH LIST: We have updated our Amazon wish list, we have added the Seresto flea collars, and some other much needed food items. Also, when you shop via Smile.Amazon.com you can select Yogie and Friends as your charity of choice and they will donate a percentage of the sales to us. It’s a very easy way to help.
We also have an Amazon wish list to help feed our cats and kittens. We need you!
